Artist Notes
This mech has played many winning engagements in the artists long running Astrokaszy campaign as the pilot Ingrid Bergman callsign “Pop-Top”.
Presented here with a running jump over a rocky outcrop representing the harsh badlands of Astrokaszy. In this artists quick style scheme, and after basing has been firstly glued in place (sand and small hand picked and arranged stones ) then primed (it is recommended to carefully prime metal models in rattlecan primer as it is far more durable than airbrush primer); she is then base coated in Duncan Rhodes (DR) Fanatic Orange with an airbrush to minimize recoats. The outer extremities (forearms and hands when applicable, and lower legs and feet below the knees) are base coated in DR Sanguine Scarlet. All determined metallic areas are base coated in charcoal black DR Death Reaper, the cockpit is also base coated in this color during the same step, and then picked out with DR Sir Coates Silver. After this the entire mech is washed in an Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic Strong Tone dark brown wash, after this some panels are recoated in their base colors to reestablish their strong colors and tone down the wash grunge effect. Base colors are then highlighted the orange with DR Orange flame, and red with DR Demon Red. The cockpit is jeweled using DR Skulker Yellow, DR Yellow Flame, and ProAcryl Bold Titanium White. Missiles are base coated with ProAcryl Bold Titanium White, and then DR Skulker Yellow. Weapon heat effects are achieved with a progressively smaller area wash of sepia brown, purple, and then blue at the barrel tips. The base is base coated in a desert tan, with large rocks being base coated in brown, everything is then speed painted in a dark sepia brown, the sand is then dry brushed in the original base coat and rocks highlighted in the base coat brown. IWM metals are then varnished with a Krylon matte coat clear before tufts are applied, after this step the model is finished in an airbrush matte clear varnish.
