Artist Notes

The request was for a ComGuard King Crab with a painted horned owl. The pilot took out five Jade Falcons in the client’s Tukayyid campaign and wanted to commemorate the event. The mini was painted with Army Painter Fanatic paints, with a Rustoleum black primer. A mix of matte white and Ash Grey were dry brushed across the mini to make the base layer. A wash of diluted Dark Tone was applied, and the same white-Ash Grey was used to touch up the base coat. Cobalt Metal was used for the joints and gun barrels, and a Dark Tone wash was applied afterwards. The cockpit was jeweled using Pure Red, Lava Orange, and Daemonic Yellow. The owl itself was freehanded using mixes of Leather Brown, Ancient Stone, Desert Yellow, Ice Yellow, and bits of white and black. A reference image courtesy of Google was used to guide the painting. Finally, the checkered pattern was Daemonic Yellow and Crystal Blue.
