Bisexuality. The 1980s. The sound of a guitar squealing.
Artist Notes
I used exclusively Citadel paints for this project.
I started by painting the whole mini with Kantor Blue. I then painted about 50% of the mini in a diagonal division with Screamer Pink. I then heavily thinned Screamer Pink with water and ran it into all the recesses on the blue side of the mini (aka a pin wash). I then painted Screamer pink over the dividing line where blue met pink and then immediately wet my brush and feathered it back and forth over the dividing line to blend the blue and pink together and blur the hard line where they meet.
After that, I used a drybrush of Teclis Blue over the blue side of the mini, stopping about 75% of the way across the blue side and leaving about 25% of just the Kantor blue leading up to the division. I then repeated the drybrush stopping at about 50% of the way. Using the same process I drybrushed successive layers of Pink Horror onto the pink side of the mini. Once that was all done, I highlight all the panel edges with Pallid Wych Flesh.
To paint the metal, I base coated all the metal parts with Leadbelcher, then highlit them with Stormhost Silver. Usually I would shade the metal, however I chose not to in this case to add to the bright, in your face effect I wanted.
For the lenses I used a technique I leaned from HobbieTS (thank you!) and painted the green lenses with Caliban Green and the blue lens with Thousand Sons Blue. I then painted a wedge of Moot Green and Temple Guard Blue respectively at about the 4 o’clock position leading to the center of the lens. On the opposite edge from the wedge, I painted a dot of white scar.
The heat sinks and jump jets as well as the cockpit lens were painted with Pallid Wych Flesh, then I applied Gryph Hound Orange contrast paint over them. I then highlit them with just a little bit of Fire Dragon Bright, then Yriel Yellow, then White Scar.
For the cockpit lens I did the same opposing corner White Scar dot I did on the lenses, but I reversed the effect to help differentiate it from the lenses and painted the wedge at the 7 o’clock position and the White Scar dot opposite that.
For the base I painted it all with Stormvermin Fur and then I just used Pallid Wych Flesh and Averland Sunset to paint in the road lines. I had to go back to the grey and clean these up, I am not capable of making them look right on the first try but you’ll never see the errors under that grey color anyway. I then stippled on a mix of Stormvermin Fur and Dawnstone in random patterns to break up the uniformity and add the texture of asphalt. I also dragged a few random squiggles across the surface to represent cracks or those little tar patches they use to repair cracks. This stippling can be sparingly overlapped on the road lines because that makes them look chipped and blends them into the base. For the part of the base that wasn’t a road I painted it with Astrogranite Debris texture paint and washed that with Nuln Oil, then drybrushed it with Dawnstone and then a very light drybrush of Karak Stone.
Finally I painted the edges of the front facing panel with the same mix of colors I used for the cockpit lens to get kind of an Vaporwave Sunset effect.
