Artist Notes
I’m painting my way across the inner sphere factions and when it came to Marik, I wanted to go with a classic purple paint job.
Mech: The model was primed with black Vallejo surface primer via an airbrush, and then base coated with Citadel’s Xereus purple. I applied a soft black wash (dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/261541.page, highly recommend!) to get all the panel lines and give me some easy shading. After the wash had dried, I went back over the larger panels with Xereus purple, to brighten them back up over the wash. The edges were highlighted by mixing a touch of Vallejo model white into the Xereus purple. The joints were painted VMC gunmetal, and then hit with 2 applications of the aforementioned wash. Once dry, a tiny highlight of gunmetal again on the top most surface. The stripes were done by carefully freehanding a straight line of VMC red, and VGC magic blue. This was my first attempt at cockpit jeweling, it was done by putting VGC goblin green in a small L shape in one corner, and VMC yellow in the other, in smaller and brighter layers, finally topped with a single point of VMC white.
Armaments: LRMs were all just tipped with VMC white, the panels were given the same treatment as the joints: gunmetal, 2 washes, gunmetal highlight. The medium lasers were painted VMC jade green, with a tiny wedge of VMC goblin green from the center to the 4 o’clock position. The entire laser lense was then covered with Vallejo gloss varnish.
Base: Applied a liberal amount of white glue, and then dunked into white crushed stone and allowed to dry. An additional layer of watered down PVA was put over the crushed stone to keep it from falling off. The edge was then coated in VMC black.
