Artist Notes
All paints used are Pro Acryl brand. Miniature was primed Dark Warm Gray. A light dry brush of neutral gray was applied in downward only brushes, to create shadows. A fine edge highlight of Bright Warm Gray was applied to create definition in the panels. Select panels were picked out for the accent of blue, using pure blue as a base, then edge highlighted with Sky Blue.
Claw marks were created using sketches of Burnt Red, then a smaller claw mark inside the burnt red using Bold Pyrrole Red for definition.
Lensing was created using the same Burnt Red and Orange in half moon shapes, then a fine crescent of white on the lasers. By using a dark color on the lasers, it makes it easy to clean up the crescent of white by painting it over it, helping create that fine line of a light reflection. For the green lens, I used Dark Camo Green and bright green using the same technique. I mixed them 3/1, 1/1, and 1/3 ratios for the cockpit lensing for a slightly smoother transition, but glazing would be a better route for a truly smooth transition.
Metallic bits were painted using Sliver, then applying a black wash and highlighting the edges using sliver.
Base was created using Cork and resin. Cork was ripped into smaller pieces to create rugged edges, then glued to the base. UV Resin was poured into those crevices and cured. After priming, I dry brushed Orange over the feet and bases to create the bright points of reflection, then airbrushed Yellow, in the center of the lava, then orange from the mid point to the walls of the crevices, then red from the edges of the lava to over the feet. A dark wash was applied to the middle of the exposed ground to help create shadows where the glow wouldn’t reach.
