Artist Notes
While the official description of the Free Worlds Guards color scheme says they use purple and white, my usual approach resulted in an off-white, almost gray tone instead of pure white.
- Primary: Vallejo Xpress Color Gloomy Violet
- Secondary: Vallejo Xpress Color Templar White
- Accents: Vallejo Game Color Dark Gunmetal
- Cockpit: Vallejo Game Color Sun Yellow, Vallejo Xpress Color Imperial Yellow
- Weapon effects: Vallejo Game Color Fluorescent Cold Green, Vallejo Game Color Fluorescent Green
- Subcoat: Vallejo Game Color Somber Gray, Vallejo Model Color White
- Wash: Citadel Colour Nuln Oil, MIG Productions Subtle Dirt Effect
- Seal: Vallejo Gloss Varnish after base coat, Vallejo Matt Varnish after wash and weapon effects
I began by priming with Army Painter Matt Black, then slap-chopped, first with Vallejo Somber Gray, then with white.
After slap-chopping, I started with the Templar White accents. Once those were applied to the center torso, upper arms and legs, and face, I applied Gloomy White to most of the mini. I painted the joints and weapon tips Dark Gunmetal. For the cockpit visor, I started with Sun Yellow, then went over it in Imperial Yellow, hoping to achieve a gold color.
After the base colors, I brushed the matt coat all over the model. Then, I applied Nuln Oil all over the mini, and Subtle Dirt Effect to the lower legs.
Once the washes were applied, I added Fluorescent Cold Green to the large lasers and PPC, and Fluorescent Green to the medium lasers.
I sealed the entire mini with Vallejo Matt Varnish.
For basing, I used Vallejo Diorama FX Russian Mud, Army Painter Battlefield Grass, and Army Painter Highland Tuft.
